Bivy camping checklist

This is the essential gear needed for bivy camping:
  • tarp with cordage
  • bivy treated with permethrin
Commonly required gear:
  • knife
  • flashlight
  • first aid
  • water filter kit
  • water
  • food
  • bear bag or canister
  • phone
  • compass and map
  • hat
  • rain gear
Optional:

  • tent poles or trekking poles
  • depending on the weather some sort of insulation from the bottom; usually an under quilt but a pad or mattress could be useful if there are no trees
  • and some sort of blanket
  • change of socks
  • cook kit including pot, fuel, stove
  • spoon depending on the food
  • stakes unless you make your own or use rocks
  • GPS
  • insect spray
  • sunscreen
  • sun umbrella
